Getting Dressed

We have to “suit up” if we are to really make progress in our emotional, spiritual and even physical health the latter being what  we have neglected for years if you are like most of us. But let’s move past that as well and talk about resting on our laurels.  We get sober and we start using our sobriety as a weapon. When I first heard this concept about 20 years ago I thought how could you use being sober as a weapon. It took some time but eventually I saw that given the tools in A.A. that earthlings didn’t possess it was easy to run rings around those that were following their unbridled instincts when we had learned how to corral them.

Take for instance when we are among our friends or relatives and they are drinking socially, inevitably any earthling that takes even one drink is easy prey for us. We can easily pounce upon their altered state and talk to them in a pious or self-righteous manner.  We can use our sobriety as a way to look down upon those outside the program as if we know better than they and even insinuate that they may have a problem with alcohol. Imagine us calling someone else’s kettle black.
